Kawasaki ZX-14 Lowering Links Installation
Installing the lowering links on my Kawasaki ZX-14 was a pretty simple project. Probably more simple than the ZX-14 Swingarm Extension Kit Install.
Difficulty Rating, 1 being easiest and 10 being hardest: Probably a 3
Tools needed:
- Front and Rear Stands
- Motorcycle Lift or an auto floor jack, like used for autos
- Metric sockets and wrench set
Parts Needed: (you could buy the zx-14 swingarm extension kit, which includes extensions, chain, brake line)
- New zx-14 lowering links (I purchased mine from Fat300 Custom Cycles)
- Lift and support your Kawasaki ZX-14 with front and rear stands.
- Remove the belly pan.
- Remove the the exhaust from the rear brake side (right side if sitting on it)
- Place a floor jack with a 1x1 block of wood on the floor jack and place it to hit the shock knuckle dead center.
- Loosen up the top and lower nut on the existing arms that are connected to the shock.
- You may have to jack the floor jack up a little to get the bolts out of the existing arms. (you should not have to beat the bolts out, they should come out very easy, if you jack the bike a little from the floor jack that is on the shock knuckle
- Once the upper the lower bolts are out install the new lowering links, start at the top hole, and snug only the nut.
- You will have to lower the bike, to match up the lower holes to the shock mount.
- The longest hole is the lowest. You can measure it up to your stock ones and see that.
- Tighten up the bolts, and lower the floor jack.
